Rowers practising for the cross-Solent row before Bestival.
A ROW to Bestival is being organised on September 5 alongside the annual Swim to Bestival.
An Isle of Wight team from the newly formed Yarmouth Gig Rowing Club will race Royal Naval Reserves sailors from London’s HMS President in traditional gig boats from Lymington.
The event will raise money for the West Wight Sports Centre, the charity-run community centre providing sports, fitness and healthy lifestyle activities.
At the finishing line off Colwell Bay, they plan to meet up with the Swim to Bestival participants and enjoy a well-earned celebration on the beach.
The Island-based rowing squad has evolved in the past few years and has attracted attention for having set a British record for a million-metre machine-based row during Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week in 2011.
The rowers set a new benchmark time for rowing an adventure gig around the Island in May. Both rowing challenges raised cash for charity.
