Rowers wanted for charity fundraiser

A PUB owner is charting a course to fundraising success.

Fifty-eight-year-old Pete Hall is aiming to assemble a flotilla of small boats for a Fort2Fort rowing challenge.

They will row from Seaview seafront near Pete’s Old Fort pub, around St Helens Fort, off Bembridge, and back again — a distance of almost three miles.

The challenge will raise funds for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and Help for Heroes.

"I am hoping 20 rowers will step up for the challenge and raise as much money as possible for the hospice, which does so much good work," said Pete, who is this year’s Seaview Regatta president.

"Cancer has, after all, touched everyone’s life. It is not a race, but I am sure some people will treat it competitively.

"Participants are asked to each raise, donate or be sponsored for £100," he said.

Pete lives on a Bembridge Harbour houseboat, regularly rows and says people can take part in any suitable boat, including skiffs.

Further details are at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/Fort2Fort where sponsorship can be pledged.

The challenge can be followed on Twitter @Fort2Fort.

Sponsor forms are also available at the pub.
