Royal return to Isle of Wight

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, is to return to the Isle of Wight on Monday, in time for Cowes Week.Picture by Laura Holme.

THE Duke of Edinburgh is coming to the Isle of Wight next week, just weeks after he visited Cowes with The Queen.

The Duke will arrive on Monday, and his visit coincides with Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, which starts on Saturday.

He will carry out a number of engagements in Newport, including a visit to The County Club in St James’ Square and a tour of AJ Wells and Sons’ factory and studio on the outskirts of the town.

The Duke will also meet members of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry at a private luncheon at the County Club, who will talk about the Isle of Wight’s business community and Young Chamber.

Before his departure, he will be offered the opportunity to view the chamber’s mobile health unit which will be parked in St James’ Square.

The Duke will then travel to AJ Wells and Sons and will be given a tour of the factory and meet staff, apprentices and members of the Wells family involved in the business.

The Duke will also be invited to unveil a plaque to commemorate the visit and presented with a bottle of slow burner ale, produced locally to celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary.

Well, I'm teetotal, non smoker and a veggie so guess that helps lol. I kinda like the royals, they cost us all less than a quid each per year or something. I can afford that.

I'm sure you will be Graeme! Regular excercise and plenty of fibre in your diet will help - oh and moderate the alcohol. Smoking should be cut out altogether mind you. There is no reason you shouldn't be alive when you reach your 90s in this day and age (if you look after yourself) although obviously that advice doesn't take into account any congenital weaknesses, family history of serious diseases, exposure to radiation etc etc

I agree with Vernon, I just hope I'm still alive when I'm his age.

Wonderful news. He's a great ambassador for the UK and and quite remarkable given his age.
