THE Duke of Edinburgh is coming to the Isle of Wight next week, just weeks after he visited Cowes with The Queen.
The Duke will arrive on Monday, and his visit coincides with Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, which starts on Saturday.
He will carry out a number of engagements in Newport, including a visit to The County Club in St James’ Square and a tour of AJ Wells and Sons’ factory and studio on the outskirts of the town.
The Duke will also meet members of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry at a private luncheon at the County Club, who will talk about the Isle of Wight’s business community and Young Chamber.
Before his departure, he will be offered the opportunity to view the chamber’s mobile health unit which will be parked in St James’ Square.
The Duke will then travel to AJ Wells and Sons and will be given a tour of the factory and meet staff, apprentices and members of the Wells family involved in the business.
The Duke will also be invited to unveil a plaque to commemorate the visit and presented with a bottle of slow burner ale, produced locally to celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary.
