CHILDREN at a Crayford primary school were so moved by the loss of more than 300 firefighters in the World Trade Centre attack, they decided to pay their own tribute.

The youngsters at St Paulinus C of E Primary School, in Iron Mill Lane, decided they wanted to contribute to a charity set up to support the firefighters' families in the wake of the tragedy.

Children brought in coins to lay over a drawing of a fire engine and the words “fire fighter”.

The response from the children was so huge the pictures had to be cleared several times to allow all the children to lay their coins. They raised more than £350 for the appeal.

Meanwhile, there have been no reported incidents involving Bexley's 2,000-strong Muslim community.

Police are in daily contact with Belvedere's Sikh temple in case of any mistaken attacks. So far, there have been no problems.
