ISLANDERS are being urged to put their best foot forward and take part in this year’s Sainsbury’s sponsored Sport Relief mile.
YMCA Isle of Wight is set to host three events, all starting from its Winchester House headquarters in Shanklin, on Sunday, March 25.
People are being asked to take part in either the one-mile Beachcomber Bound along the flat revetment to Sandown Pier, the three-mile Dinosaur Dash to Yaverland or the daring six-mile Charles Pelham Challenge, which includes an off-road trail to the top of Culver Down.
Competitors will set off from Welcome Beach, near Littlestairs Point, Shanklin, with each of the runs taking in the sights of Sandown Bay.
Entrants don’t have to be sporty to take part. All the money raised will help to change the lives of people in the UK and in some the world’s poorest countries.
The Sport Relief Weekend kicks off on Friday, March 23, when everyone gets active, has fun and raises cash at home, at work or at school. By the end of the weekend, everyone will be raring to go, when the whole nation comes together to take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on the Sunday morning.
Registration on the day will be at YMCA Winchester House, where refreshments, a barbecue and changing facilities will be available.
People can also register at www.sportrelief.com or by calling Kelly Matthews on 01983 862441.
