EARLY-stage designs for a housing development on a rural site have been unveiled.

The concept for the site, which lies at Blanchards, between Main Road and Upper Lane, Brighstone, include housing, a doctors surgery and a care home.

A two-day exhibition was held at Wilberforce Hall at the weekend to give residents a chance to view the concept and give feedback.

The designs have yet to be finalised and submitted to the Isle of Wight Council and residents will have more opportunities to raise their views in the coming weeks.

The parish council is due to discuss the design at its annual parish meeting, on April 21, and the plans are on show in the Post Office.

Henry Murray-Smith, of Rainey Petrie Architecture, which created the plans and organised the exhibition, said: "The exhibition was undertaken to explore a possible concept for responding to the needs identified in the Brighstone Village Plan on behalf of the trustees of the Cheverton Estate who own the field known as Blanchards.

"Over the two days of the exhibition more than 200 people attended and 85 written responses were received, so we viewed it as a very successful consultation."

He said there was a mix of positive and negative views, which they would collate and discuss with the trustees.
