IT WAS like a breath of fresh air as the Lilywhites dominated Saturday's game with some excellent attacking football.

Time after time Steve White and Mark Tompkins got behind the Borough defence, Tompkins opening the scoring after just three minutes with a brilliant lob over the keeper. Mark Loveday made it 2-0 in the 29th minute when his cross found its way through a packed 18-yard box and into the net.

Borough were reduced to 10 men in the 41st minute after Gavin Mcguire was sent off for punching Tompkins.

Bromley's thrid goal came in the 74th minute when Jamie Kyte, returning after a four-week absence, latched on to a Tim Griggs through-ball to score with his first touch.

At this point it looked as though Bromley would go on to a comfortable victory but Borough rallied and scored two goals, the second in injury time.

Lilywhites boss George Wakeling was impressed with his team's performance. "I was highly delighted to come back with an away win - we deserved it," he said.

The club is now eighth in the Isthmian Premier Division and Wakeling believes the future looks promising. "Hopefully we can get confidence from what we've achieved recently and finish in the top third of the table. It's a step in the right direction," he said.

Bromley face Basingstoke at Hayes Lane this Saturday. The away fixture at Carshalton on Tuesday was played after the News Shopper went to press.
