RYDE Academy came up trumps again in the national final of Rock Challenge by finishing third last night (Sunday).

The academy, which came fifth as Ryde High School in the 2010 finals, excelled themselves as a wild card entry with their dance routine, The Nature of the Beast, at a packed Milton Keynes Theatre.

It meant Ryde Academy became the only school in the UK to have finished in the top five more than once.

They also won awards for student leadership, performance skill and best staging.

Islander Tim McFarlane, a former Rock Challenge entrant with Sandown and Ryde High Schools, who now manages the competition, said: "Ryde Academy did amazingly well.

"I am really pleased for them because they took on board what the judges had told them in the heats and improved."
