AN ISLE of Wight golf club hopes to make a caddy-full of cash for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice when the world’s biggest team golf trophy, the Ryder Cup, comes to the Island.
Isle of Wight golfers will have the rare chance to pose like greats Seve Ballesteros and Colin Montgomery, who have both lifted the trophy for Europe against the United States in the Ryder Cup, when it comes to Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club.
The trophy will be on display at the clubhouse between 11am and 4pm tomorrow (Saturday), and 10am until 2pm on Sunday.
Anyone wishing to have their photo taken with this iconic trophy can contact the club on 01983 403217 to be assured of an allotted time. Photographs will cost £15 each, with proceeds going to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
The cup’s visit to the club was arranged by David Wright, the Professional Golfers’ Association’s heritage curator, and David Woodhouse, captain of Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club.
