Stuart Ferguson, a foreman and bricklayer, is a regular at the Flint Cottage, Amersham Hill, High Wycombe

What do you like about the pub?

I've been coming here since I came to work down south three years ago. I am originally from Yorkshire and was surprised at how friendly people are here. Especially in this pub. Marge and Dave who run the place always make you feel very welcome and everyone here is very friendly. It is the most handy for me I live just upstairs.

Do they have music?

There is good music to be had but it's quiet and comfortable too. There's a nice open fire and sport on the big screen. I'm a Leeds and Celtic fan. It's also got the darts which I play every now and again.

What's your favourite tipple?

I'm drinking Dry Blackthorne this evening but usually go for a bitter. It's not bad in here. No matter what anyone says though, the further south you go the worse the beer gets. But here is one of the better places for a pint.

History

Marge Douglas, landlady for the past four months, says the Flint Cottage has always had a reputation as a lively pub. It has a strong musical tradition, with live bands, live music in the garden in summer, discos, jazz and karaoke.

Local bands used to practise in an outhouse in the garden.

She's recently reinstalled a darts board and hopes a darts team will get going. Sport is high profile here, with big TV screens carrying football, boxing, rugby and currently snooker.
