A SAILOR has been rescued from a yacht off the Isle of Wight by Cowes RNLI Lifeboat this afternoon (Thursday) after suffering a head injury on board a Sunsail vessel.

The yachtsman, who was rescued from a boat taking part in Cowes Week racing close to Ryde Pier, was taken to Trinity Landing, Cowes, where he was treated by a paramedic.

He had been hit by a spinnaker pole.

Ten people were on board the yacht, which carried on racing after the rescue.

His injuries were not thought to be serious, according to a Cowes RNLI spokesman.
