Sailors stay dry thanks to lottery

Dame Ellen MacArthur and youngsters sailing with the trust celebrate their new kit.

YOUNGSTERS who sail with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust will be staying dry after receiving funding to buy new waterproofs and lifejackets.

The People’s Postcode Lottery, a grant-giving body which is funded entirely by the game’s players, gave the trust a cheque for £5,817, which was presented to the trust’s patron and founder, Dame Ellen MacArthur.

The money has gone towards 20 lifejackets and 22 full sets of waterproofs, which will be essential to the trust’s trips.

Dame Ellen said: "We are delighted to have been given such a generous grant for new kit. It means so much to the trust and will allow us to continue to support young people from all over the UK with their recovery from cancer.

"A huge thank you to everyone at the People’s Postcode Lottery."

This is the second year the trust has received funding from the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Last year, it was awarded £10,000 to purchase its own van for transporting the young people, crew and kit around safely.
