A NEARLY new clothes sale has raised more than £700 for the Isle of Wight Foodbank.

Customers flocked to the sale on Saturday, held at the charity's Somerton headquarters, to choose from a selection of nearly new clothes and handmade wooden gifts.

Cakes and hot drinks were provided by Calbourne Classics and Medina Foodservice.

Proceeds from the sale and a raffle, plus donations, totalled £710.49.

Foodbank volunteer Sarah Hamilton said: "The money raised goes towards the cost of running the charity. Our latest statistics show we fed and supported 312 people in October, and more than 3,500 since we began last year.

"The need is growing for our provision across the board. We fed more than 600 people last Christmas so, with the increase we have experienced this year, we are bracing ourselves for the next two months to come."
