A DAY devoted to ancient Egypt was enjoyed by pupils of Ryde Junior School.

Children and staff dressed up to take part in a series of ancient Egyptian workshops, including numeracy and literacy, provided by Bournemouth-based company Treehouse Theatre.

The children learned about the mummification process, as well as performing in a play about ancient Egypt.

And they sampled an Egyptian menu for lunch, cooked by the school’s kitchen staff.

"It gave the children a chance to learn things they wouldn’t normally do from a book and it was an activity-packed, fun day," said Ryde Junior School’s head of drama, Johanna McKay.
