A CHARITY which supports young families across north Kent has received more than £10,000 from the Government.
Home Start North West Kent helps 130 families with pre-school children. Volunteers help parents who are suffering from depression, feel isolated or have been through a family breakdown.
Senior co-ordinator Deborah Bowler says she is delighted with the extra funding from the Home Office's new Mentoring Fund.
The £10,850 funding will go towards updating the charity's computer system at Denton Multi-Cultural Centre, in Lower Range Road, Gravesend.
She said: "We have 50 volunteers across north Kent who all go on 10-week training courses. They do a marvellous job helping families with young children. They befriend a family, listen to their problems and give them practical help."
"Due to the high demand for our help, we have taken on two project workers who will work with the Chinese and Bengali community. This extra funding will go towards new work stations."
