Scam warning over 'Age Concern' calls

A SCAM warning has been issued by the Isle of Wight Council.

A spokesman said the trading standards team had received reports of residents being telephoned by someone claiming to be from Age Concern’s Sandown branch.

"The caller, who has an Indian accent, asks for cash donations to be made.

"This is a scam and is not a genuine call. Age Concern is now called Age UK and does not have a Sandown branch, and the organisation does not use Indian call centres," the council warned on its Facebook page.

It urged anyone who received such a call to hang up, without giving out any personal details.

Anyone worried about scams can contact trading standards via 01983 821000 or www.iwight.com
