Blackheath Rugby Club coach Chris Kibble blooded two more of his young "lions" last Saturday to bring the total to eight this season.

American Pat Mitchell and Gregg Stubbs made their debuts at inside centre and winger respectively against Clifton.

Kibble said: "All the boys have thoroughly deserved their chance, and as long as we have experience players alongside them we should be a major force to be reckoned with next season. It's all very exciting."

The other young stars introduced so far this season are hooker Alex Natera, lock Lee Evans, who joined club from Northampton, flanker Ian Collins, who scored a try on his debut against Cinderford the weekend

before last, versatile Alan Knuckey, prop Rob Emery, center Peter Dack he scored two tries on his debut and prop Sam Randall, who has the distinction to be the only player to have performed at every level from minis to first-team.

Skipper Mark Percival said: "Our current youth policy is coming to fruition and we are producing players with the calibre to go all the way and make the first team."

Saturday's rearranged game with Clifton ended with a 21-10 victory for Club. It was their second double of the season in a match when Lady Luck at last paid a visit to the Rectory Field.

Clifton took a 10-8 lead into half-time as Tom Scott had kicked a penalty and Abban crashed over a try for Club.

In the second period, Abban put Club in the lead with a try, then Alex Natera scored, but the conversion was missed. A Harvey Biljon penalty then sealed a 21-10 win.

Club are away to Camberley on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.
