SCHOOLCHILDREN have embraced the Christmas spirit by taking part in the Isle of Wight Christmas Toy Appeal.
Parents and pupils from Carisbrooke CE Primary School raised £320 for the appeal by holding a mufti day.
The school’s PTA used the money to buy presents at The Entertainer, Newport, which they donated to the appeal.
PTA chair Danika Barber said: "We managed to get 50 presents all with a value of £10 or more, thanks to the penny sale and discount offers in The Entertainer. We especially tried to get things suitable for older children like Kinex, Nerf guns and board games."
Appeal organiser Deborah Rooke said: "It’s so wonderful that children are getting involved in the appeal at school and enjoying donating presents to other Island kids.
"However, we’re still eager to reach our target. The three-to-five age group usually does really well but the middling age groups, such as eight to 12 and 12 to 16, usually don’t receive as many presents."
To support the appeal and help reach this year’s target of 2,500 gifts, simply buy a toy with a suggested value of £10 and donate it to one of the drop-off points around the Isalnd — including the County Press office — until December 13.
The gifts will be distributed by 20 charities to disadvantaged or poorly children in need of Christmas presents.
