A SUMMER ball held in mid-Solent to mark the end of school careers was memorable for students of Sandown High School’s sixth form.

Around 160 students were ferried from Cowes to Spitbank Fort for the party last Friday evening.

The event, which included a disco, was organised by the school’s sixth form captains.

The students were presented with gifts of tankards for the boys and wine glasses for the girls, etched with the school emblem.

Sixth form captain Ian Wickham, 18, who will go on to study veterinary science at university, said: "It was a good night and an emotional occasion for many who are saying goodbye to friends who will be off to university."
