Charlie Hutton, who was killed in a tragic accident off the Isle of Wight.
THE death of 14-year-old schoolboy Charlie Hutton, killed after he fell out of a boat driven by his father, was a tragic accident, an inquest has heard today (Thursday).
Isle of Wight coroner Caroline Sumeray recorded a verdict of accidental death following a half-day hearing into the youngster’s death.
The inquest heard the accident occurred on July 20, last year, when Mr Hutton, from South Croydon, Charlie, and two friends, were heading to Yarmouth from Mudeford, Dorset, on board Mr Hutton’s Cobra RIB.
The hearing was told the boat was well equipped with safety gear and Mr Hutton had Royal Yachting Association qualifications for driving motorised vessels.
Charlie and one of his friends were swept overboard by a a rogue wave, before Charlie was hit by the boat’s engine, the inquest heard.
He was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital, but died of his injuries.
