AN ATTACK on a schoolgirl yesterday (Tuesday) is being investigated by Isle of Wight police.

The girl was attacked at around 3.45pm as she walked home from Christ the King College, along a footpath that runs behind the school, according to a police spokeswoman.

The girl, aged 13, was stopped by a man and asked for the time, he grabbed her and tried to pull up her skirt.

Police said the girl pushed the man away and was able to get away. She was uninjured, but shaken by the incident.

The man was described as in his late 40s to mid 50s, 6ft 1ins tall,  medium build with a pot belly, short grey to dark brown curly hair and bushy eyebrows, wearing a brown coat.

Safer neighbourhood teams will be patrolling the area to provide reassurance, a spokewoman said.

She added that they were keeping an open mind as to whether the incident was linked to a report of indecent exposure in Puckpool Park on Saturday.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

Anyone with information can contact Newport police on 101.
