A SCOOTER RIDER was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital this morning (Thursday) following an accident.
According to an Isle of Wight NHS spokeswoman the male scooter rider was involved in a crash in Ryde.
No other people or vehicles were involved.
The man was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital by Solent Coastguard helicopter in the early hours of this morning. He has been admitted to the neurological unit.
*A police spokeman said: "Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a road traffic collision on the Isle of Wight.
"Officers attended the scene on the Nicholson Road industrial estate in Ryde shortly after 1am this morning (Thursday).
"A man appeared to have fallen off a scooter.
"The 20-year-old man from Ryde, Isle of Wight was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment for injuries, which are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.
"No other vehicles were involved."
It was initially believed the man had been riding a motorcycle, however police said the vehicle was a scooter.
