Scouts’ plea for help

ISLE of Wight scouts are looking for members to join the new Scout Active Support (SAS) unit to help young people on the Island enjoy scouting.

Formerly known as the Fellowship, the SAS is aimed at recruiting people who would like to help out but may not be able to commit to a regular time every week.

County Commissioner Anthony Roberts said: "The Island SAS will have three sections: one to help with the scout campsite at Corf, near Porchfield, one to help with fundraising and publicity, and one to help in all sorts of ways — perhaps standing in during holidays or illness, help in building new scout huts, or teaching specialised skills, which could include sailing, camping or first aid.

"Anyone over 18 can join, free training will be given and it may help with your CV."
