THE first scheme to allow people to swap their cars for a free bus pass has been hailed a success by bosses.
Southern Vectis’s Really Green Car Scrappage Scheme has already resulted in three old bangers being scrapped, with a further two heading to the crusher after valuations.
The firm has also had more than 6,000 enquires about the scheme on its website.
The company’s operations manager, Marc Morgan Huws, said: "Five in a fortnight is fairly good and we still have had lots of enquires on our website."
He said he believed people would come forward when their MoTs expired.
"There is a lot of interest and we have had a lot of phone calls."
It is hoped the scheme will now be introduced across the company’s parent group and then the whole country.
