BEMBRIDGE RNLI offshore lifeboat this afternoon recovered a body spotted in the English Channel 15 miles off the Isle of Wight's St Catherine's Point.
It had been seen by the crew of a yacht and a rescue helicopter, the lifeboat and a police launch were alerted.
The discovery followed cruise ship crew member Elroy Fernandes jumping overboard from a cruise ship as it made its way to Southampton.
CCTV aboard the cruise ship MSC Opera captured 33-year-old Mr Fernandes climbing over the guard rail in the early hours of the morning of September 24.
His disappearance was close to the position in which the body was recovered.
The body was passed by the lifeboat crew to the police launch and taken to Portsmouth for identification.
The lifeboat had been launched at 11.27am and after recovery was tasked to assist a speedboat with three people on board off Bembridge Ledge.
It took the boat in tow to Bembridge Harbour, returning to station three hours after the initial call.
