Search starts for Island’s top dog

CASSIE the German Shepherd's legacy is set to live on in a new award donated by her owner, Jillie Wheeler, and supported by the County Press.

Cassie and Jillie were well known around the Island for their fund-raising efforts, collecting thousands of pounds for good causes such as the hospice and the Saturday Club for Deaf Children.

Now, Jillie has teamed up with the CP to search for the Island’s top dog, who does the most for its owner, or in the community.

It could be a dog who, like Cassie, raises money for charity, a special hound who helps its disabled owner, or one which has done something particularly courageous.

Jillie is donating a trophy for Cassie’s Award for Dog of the Year and the County Press will take pictures of the dog and owner, which will be framed and given as part of the prize.

Judges for the award will be Jillie and representatives of the County Press. The closing date for nominations has been extended to September 30.

Just send in your nomination, limited to 200 words, with a picture, to Cassie’s Award, IW County Press, Brannon House, 123 Pyle Street, Newport, Isle of Wight. PO30 1ST.
