REMEMBRANCE Sunday services will be held across the Isle of Wight next month in memory of servicemen and women who have died during conflict.

Following a two minute silence at 11am, a wreath laying ceremony and Service of Remembrance will be held in Newport Minister on Sunday, November 11.

The Isle of Wight Council's mace bearer will lead a procession beforehand, from the Guildhall and to Sts Thomas' Square, where members will join other organisations for prayers, a council spokeswoman said.

Carisbrooke Castle open a Field of Remembrance, introduced in the Princess Beatrice Garden in 2010.

The field was established by the Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Major General Martin White, as a place where residents can pay their respects around the time of Remembrance Sunday.

The castle will open its doors for visitors between 10am and 1pm on Thursday, November 8 as well as 10am to 4pm on Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11.

Crosses can be purchased at the castle with proceeds going to the Royal British Legion and a formal service will take place on the Thursday at 10.45am. Refreshments will be available with proceeds going to the Isle of Wight Women's Institute.
