THE SHANKLIN branch of the Isle of Wight Foodbank will be closing next week.
The centre, at Shanklin Methodist Church, will be holding its final session next Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the charity said: "Looking at our statistics for the Isle of Wight, it is recognised that demand can be managed with three rather than four foodbank centres on the east side of the Island.
"This decision will help the Isle of Wight Foodbank manage resources more appropriately.
"The foodbank is continuing to feed an average of 450 people per month and the closure of the Shanklin foodbank is no reflection on the level of need for support in crisis.
"The Isle of Wight foodbank would like to publicly thank the Shanklin Methodist Church for hosting the Shanklin foodbank centre as well as thanking all the volunteers for their loyalty and commitment over the past five years."
People in need of emergency food are advised to attend other Foodbank centres such as Sandown or Ventnor.
