A TRAIN journey from the Isle of Wight to Derbyshire has been named the most expensive in the country.
The 240-mile journey from Shanklin to Buxton will cost you £501 for a standard anytime return according to travel website BR Fares.
That makes it about the same as a return flight from Heathrow to Los Angeles — a distance of 5,400 miles — and more expensive than a return train journey from Cornwall to Scotland.
Passengers who splash out to travel first class to Buxton will have to pay £658.
The journey includes services run by Island Line, South West Trains and Northern, as well as the Wightlink Fastcat between Ryde and Portsmouth.
