Police are investigating after an Alperton policeman was seriously injured while rushing to the scene of a fatal road accident in Northwood.

The officer, who is based at Alperton Traffic Garage, has a cracked vertebrae and is in a body cast after the accident, which happened at the junction of Fore Street and Eastcote Road, Eastcote, at 12.50pm on Thursday. He was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital, where he is expected to stay for six weeks.

He was driving alone on a motorbike and there was no other vehicle involved.

The incident he was rushing to happened 20 minutes earlier, when Chi Choi Man, 64, was hit by a car reversing out of a house in Woodridge Way, Northwood. The man, of Dean Road, Northwood, was taken to Watford General Hospital, where he died ten hours later. Witnesses are asked to call Sgt Mike Banner on 020 8246 9850.
