AN OVERNIGHT shelter for the homeless will be open tonight (Monday) and tomorrow night.

The shelter at Downside Community and Learning Centre, Furrlongs, Newport, is run by volunteers from the Church of Victorious Life with support from the Isle of Wight Council.

It provides beds, food and drink, bathing and laundry facilities and will be open from 7pm to 8am.

It is open to anyone who would otherwise be spending the night on the street.

For more information about housing support contact the Isle of Wight Council housing team at County Hall or in an emergency out of hours, call Wightcare on 01983 821105.

Again it's better than nothing at all.
It's a shame that the 'Government' don't supply the funding and we have to rely on charity to put a basic roof over people's heads, but that 2013 Britain I guess.
Well done the Church of Victorious Life anyway.
