Lightwater 3 Streatham-Croydon 3

After the highs of last Saturday's victory over the undefeated London Exiles, a lacklustre Streatham were forced to scrap for a point at wet and windy Lightwater.

Faced with a bulky pack and conditions which made lineout ball difficult to secure, Streatham rarely had any quality possession with which to supply their three-quarters.

Alternatively, Lightwater played to their strengths and restricted their game plan to a pattern of rolling mauls, using their weight advantage in the forwards.

Consequently, Lightwater dominated territorially for the majority of the game but Streatham can take comfort from their defensive performance which was as strong as ever.

Fleetingly, Streatham were able to display the kind of form that has seen them win the majority of their games this season.

On the few occasions that possession at the set piece was secured, fly-half Will Manns and centre Matt Roberts contrived to unlock the Lightwater defence and momentarily looked dangerous.

However, the occasions where Streatham put together a series of phases of play were rare.

But Streatham worked hard to recover from a penalty which had seen them 3-0 down at half-time and Spike Williams was able to level the scores 10 minutes into the second half.

On a day in which Streatham's defence was seriously tested, hooker Frank Evers and No 8 Andy Brown once again proved their worth while winger Gavin Calloo showed he is as efficient at stopping tries as he is at scoring them.

Pete Murie was once again the cornerstone of the scrum and led the pack well until having to leave the field with a neck injury.

* Purley John Fisher were not in action this week. Farnham called the match off at the last minute because of the state of the pitch. Purley are at home this Saturday against Farnborough in a league fixture.
