Soap role is a big hit for IW actor

Island actor Colin Carmichael, who starred in EastEnders.

ISLAND actor Colin Carmichael was expecting to go to Iceland recently but a phone call meant he headed for Albert Square instead, to play a geek of a character called Sinclair in EastEnders.

Billed as Colin Michael Carmichael, he admits to having been a little nervous with such a high profile show but, in the end, it was more fun than he expected.

The story involved Colin’s character being a last-minute on-line date for Kim Fox, played by actor Tameka Empson.

Despite being armed with flowers and a posh voice it did just not work out for Sinclair.

The brief storyline was about racial integration and, despite feeling a little uncomfortable as the person acting it out, Colin handled it well, aided by some skilful writing.

"Tameka Empson, who plays Kim, is such a lovely person and she put me at ease. We had fun while filming the final scene, when she whacked me across the face."

Colin, who still lives on the Island, was educated at Carisbrooke High School before moving to Medina.

He has made numerous appearances on TV and he was one of the original 118 118 guys in the TV commercials.
