Solar breakthrough should boost jobs

JOBS are being created at an Island factory that is leading the UK in developing and marketing a heating system to dramatically cut bills.

Sandown-based Surejust Energy said it would be employing three more staff after announcing a breakthrough in combining solar-assisted heating and hot water for domestic and commercial properties.

The company said despite the credit crunch orders were flowing in for its system, which cuts use of fossil fuels in half. It currently employs seven people and has an eight-week waiting list for installation.

Surejust managing director David Battle said: “For years, our German counterparts have been feeding solar gain through their radiators.

“The problem in this country is that our water pressure is far lower and is often inadequate to distribute the heat efficiently.

“By adapting our cylinder technology, which is well known throughout the world, we have solved the pressure problems and we are the first in the UK to do that.”

He said the system’s super cylinders were made of high-grade anti-bacterial copper, rather than cheaper stainless steel that could harbour germs.

“Keeping your water clean and wholesome, and contained in copper, has positive health advantages.

“There is a capital cost but the best thing about it is the fact the energy savings pay for it over a reasonable period of time and then continue to pay back for many, many years.

“I expect production to double over the next two years,” he said.
