Your continued publicity about the Metric Martyrs' should be applauded.

For too long politicians' deceit and misrepresentation has diverted us to less important matters to conceal the endgame intended of a United States of Europe.

Only now, with the emotive issue of metrication, is the electorate really beginning to wake up. The change is just another stage in the long story of surrender to Brussels.

Because Britain's culture was so different from the continental states, it has been forced to make all the changes and sustain the enormous costs that went with them.

France and Germany have thus benefited immensely.

France, especially, has grown rich from the Common Agricultural Policy and its rules, which suit their farmers and consumers but not ours because we import more from outside the EU.

Now, succeeding governments have pushed us so far down the road to "harmonisation", it seems Brussels can order Mr Blair to toe the line.

As Rupert Smythe points out, Britain fought two very painful and costly wars to stay independent from those continental dictators, so why should we meekly surrender our freedom now?
