The heavy green favoured Finchley Victoria men, who won on all rinks in their annual match against the women. Albert Hooper skipped the top rink.

In better weather, Vics succumbed to Mill Hill, losing on two of the three rinks, with only Hooper's rink able to cope with the strong opposition.

Away to Oak Hill on a scorching afternoon, Victoria handled the fast green better than the home club and won convincingly on all rinks.

Hooper completed a hat-trick, again skipping the highest winning rink.

In their home game with Barnet, Victoria lost on two of the three rinks, but still managed to win 68-61. This was due to a resounding 29-9 victory for Bill Hampsher, Ben Cohen, Bill Hicks and Derek Hall.

A combined men's and women's tour of Bournemouth by Barnet produced a win and two defeats. Barnet went down against Southbourne 119-50 and Richmond Park 94-59, despite a 19-15 win for Parker, Purton, Wilson and Ash. Three Barnet rinks won 86-59 against Moordown. I Ede, Jones, Wilson and P Ede won 21-16. Beck D Purton, B Hogan, and Hattrell won 33-11. V Hogan, Horne, Parker and Chapman won 18-14.

At home to Muswell Hill, Barnet lost 74-50, with only Beer, Sebright and N Day winning, 16-14.

A better result against Borehamwood saw all four triples successful in an 85-56 victory. Bayfield, Sadgrove and Ede 20-9. Sewell, Jones and Chapman won 25-15. Hack, Ash and Whitehorn won 23-17. Allan, Wilson and I Henderson won 17-15.

Potters Bar won away to Friary Park 71-50. PB rinks: Webb, White, Mackie won 20-12. Goodwin, Norman, Throup lost 14-18. Bowman, Marriner, Winn won 21-12. Lead, Stout, Mouland lost 16-18. Bar were also successful away to Cockfosters, 62-42. PB rinks: Brown, Brookes, Morris won 19-8. Ades, Hamshere, Whittle won 17-11. Butler, Stokes, Read won 26-13.

Potters Bar's C Morris won 21-15 in the first round of EBA Champion of Champions.

Potters Bar Ladies lost at home to Roebuck 64-41. PB rinks: Butler, Owens, Bradley lost 16-17. Atlas, Stokes, Bryan lost 11-27. Lelliott, Penn, Pescod lost 14-20. But the ladies scored a thrilling three-shot win over Clarence Park. PB rinks: Bolton, Throup, Thompson lost 14-15. Norman, Stokes, Clark won 17-15.

After a slow start, Bishopswood struck form with two impressive wins, 105-85 away to Albert, and 119-85 at home to North London.

At Albert, Bishopswood's top rink was Hogan, Davis, Austin and Alterman. Against North London, the top rink was Austin, Rappaport, and Jacobs.

UP on two of the three rinks, Mill Hill won away to Borehamwood by 56 shots to 41.

Mill Hill rinks and scores: Gibbins, Lacey and Brant won 23-11. Krause, Bailey and Greenshields lost 12-19. Payne, R Smith and Cherry won 21-11.

However, away at Oakhill at the weekend, Mill Hill met their Waterloo when a combination of strong opposition and a very fast green proved too much in a 74-47 defeat.

Mill Hill rinks and scores: A Leech, FHurley and Bailey lost 6-37. Dixon, W Smith, R Smith and Brant lost 13-25. Krause, Attwell, Sutton and Cherry won 28-12.

A successful spell for Finchley Victoria Ladies produced wins in the Middlesex and the National Over-55s competitions.

Middlesex results: Triples: Moores, Hicks and Pearce beat Temple Fortune and Albert. Fours: Pearce, Moores, Williams and Hicks beat North London. National Over-55s: Pearce and Hicks beat Kodak.
