THE future of an Island sports centre is to be considered by the Isle of Wight Council on Monday.

Councillors will consider granting a 125 year lease for Rew Valley Sports Centre, Ventnor, to the Island Community School, which is due to be built on land opposite the centre.

As part of the deal, the neighbouring St Francis Primary School and the community, would have to be offered the opportunity to use the facilities.

A council spokesman said the Island Community School planned to rebuild the former St Margaret’s Primary School, opposite the centre.

"Since the closure of Ventnor Middle School, the council has funded the centre (at a cost of £50,000 a year) from its community budgets while a new third party was sought to manage it. In February this year the council received an expression of interest from the community school to take on the centre," the spokesman added.
