A FORMER soldier turned author has published a new novella, having overcome homelessness and being diagnosed with ADHD just a few years ago.

Jamie Fineran was 16 when he joined the army, and by the time he was 21 had completed two tours of duty.

After leaving the army, he found civilian life difficult to adjust to and left the IW in early 2000. Jamie worked packing fish in plastic containers on a production line.

Soon, Jamie reached a point where he only had one egg and half a tin of baked beans left to survive on. With no money to buy electric, and too afraid to leave the house in the day, he only felt safe going out at night.

Returning to the Island in 2004, Jamie works in the civil service and has now sold thousands of books. He come third in the 2014 people's book prize.

His latest novella, a British crime thriller, sees Mi6 agent, Vincent Black thrown into a lion's den of corruption, death and drugs.

Jamie said he hopes to highlight the importance of creative writing in schools and at home.

He said: "During my time in this actual school, I was that fool that no one wanted to be, or sit next to in class; thinking that the world owed me something, when in fact, I wasted my only chance of getting something for free, a school education."

The book is available to buy on Amazon and Kindle.
