ISLANDER are being asked to keep their eyes peeled for red squirrels over the coming weeks.
The Red Squirrel Survival Trust (RSST) has launched its second survey monitoring population trends around the UK.
The Isle of Wight is one of only five counties in England still home to the bushy-tailed rodents.
"It is vital as many people as possible living in red squirrel areas take part in this important survey," said television presenter Alan Titchmarsh, an RSST ambassador.
The biannual survey allows conservationists to get a better understanding of the current plight facing reds around the country.
About 250 people participated in the first survey in December last year and it is hoped the number of participant will double this time.
• The survey can be found at www.rsst.org.uk.
