An attack in Sandridge Road on Saturday, January 26, left an attacker and his victim in hospital.
The attack took place near the Cricketers Pub at 6pm when a 27-year-old St Albans man and a 19-year-old woman were attacked by two young men.
The attackers walked past the couple but then came back and an argument broke out between them.
After walking away again one of the men returned and attacked the man with a blade, leaving him with two long gashes in his cheek and head.
He then kicked and punched the woman before walking off with his other attacker.
During the attack, the slasher also sustained a serious injury to his finger and had to be taken to Hemel Hempstead Hospital while his victim was taken to QEII.
Johnathan Bridges, 21 of Sandridge Road was arrested on Tuesday, January 29, and has been charged with GBH wounding with intent as well as ABH and affray.
An 18-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, January 26.
