Stage set for biggest ever Ventnor Fringe

THE biggest ever Ventnor Fringe festival will take place next month, organisers have announced.

VFringe 2014 will last for six days, from August 12 to 16, packed with music, theatre, dance, comedy and arts.

Festival organiser Jack Whitewood said highlights will include parties with DJ sets from The Bees Soundsystem and The Maccabees, a late night spoken word 'lock in’ at the Ventnor Library hosted by UK Beatbox Championship winner Reeps One, French cabaret show Soirée Pompette and outdoor theatre by Brighton-based circus company Shambolic Sideshow.

Festivalgoers can look forward to intimate performances in the beautiful local churches, from acts like London’s Gypsyfingers and Bristol’s Chiverin.

Appropriately, an outdoor screening of Wes Anderson’s cult comedy about a group of scouts, Moonrise Kingdom will be held at the local scout campsite.

Events will also take place in 'pop up’ bars and venues throughout the town, with some of the more unusual venues including a laundrette and a 360-degree cocktail bar in the harbour.

As well as being the 5th anniversary of Ventnor Fringe, this year is also the 125th anniversary of the Ventnor Carnival, which will take place on the Main Parade on Wednesday, August 13, with the Illuminated Parade taking place on Saturday, August 16.

The Isle of Wight Film Festival will also take place in the 'Sacred Cinema’ on Victoria Street from August 12 to 16, having joined forces with the Fringe back in in 2012.

Camping is available from £10/night. The Festival’s new Box Office will also be opening at the former Post Office building on Church Street shortly.
