RESIDENTS of the The Foyer enjoyed movie star status at the premiere of an animated film they helped to create.
Twelve youngsters involved with producing Carnival, were chauffeur driven in a limousine to watch the film at Quay Arts, Newport.
The screening followed a week-long workshop with mainland-based artists Tom Hicks and Ergo Phizmiz where they helped design characters, while also working on effects and sounds.
“The project proved a great opportunity to be creative and it was something I have always wanted to do,” said 20-year-old Maria Bennett.
Meanwhile, for Jaz Sambrook, 19, who studies performing arts at the Isle of Wight College, working on the film enhanced her desire to have a career in the industry.
“It was a brilliant week and I really enjoyed drawing characters so I hope I can do something like this again,” she said.
Artist Tom Hicks, who had a recent animation and paintings exhibition at Quay Arts, was delighted to work with the youngsters from The Foyer.
“They were a very interesting group and we had lots of fun making the film, so it was well worthwhile,” he said.
Carnival was produced following a successful Awards For All bid made by The Foyer last year and it is hoped other similar projects can follow.
“We would like to offer our residents different options, possibly in the form of a performing arts or radio project,” said Julie Adams, Foyer manager.
