THE British Challenge for the world steam car record is on course.
The British Steam Car team, including Bembridge boatbuilder Mike Horne, carried out another successful test today (Friday) and reached speeds of 131mph, 4mph above the world record established in 1906.
The team said although it went faster than the record, as the FIA ratifying body was not present, it was not officially recognised.
The FIA is due to set up the course on Monday and record bids will be made on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
