LLOYDS Pharmacy in Green Street, Enfield, is offering its customers a free blood pressure check-up until June 16.
In the UK 25 per cent of the population over the age of 50 suffers from high blood pressure without even realising it.
Pharmacist Anne-Marie O'Regan said: 'Blood pressure rises temporarily when you are excited or angry but when it is persistently raised, it causes a major risk of heart disease or stroke.
'In Britain we have moderately high blood pressure levels and so it's important that we are aware of ways in which we can reduce these levels,' she added.
To reduce the risks of high blood pressure medics advise people to cut down on salt and foods with saturated fats, quit smoking, take more exercise and relax.
