THE charity which will benefit from the support of fundraising efforts by Sainsbury's Newport store has been chosen.

Breathe Easy has been selected as Sainsbury’s new local charity partner for 2012/2013 after the store asked Island customers which local charity they should support.

The partnership officially launched on June 13 and customers can now choose to make a donation in-store to Breathe Easy, which is situated in the respiratory department at St. Mary’s Hospital.

The charity was founded in 2000 and helps support anyone that has a lung condition.

Sainsbury’s Newport charity partner last year was IW Branch National Autistic Society and managed to raise £2,454.67.

Store manager Paul Dyer said: "Breathe Easy is such a worthy cause and we’re pleased and proud to be supporting it over the next 12 months."

Andrew Savage, of Breathe Easy, said: "I hope this partnership will raise awareness to Island residents about the work we do and the impact it has in the community. We now look forward to a successful year working with the store’s colleagues on this exciting initiative".
