JEFFERSON Louis has won a trial at third division Oxford United just two months after coming out of prison.

The Thame United striker served a six-month jail sentence for driving offences last year but has now been offered a trial with the professional side until the end of the season.

Louis said: "Everything that I wanted is coming true. Training with a professional team is a dream come true.

"Being in prison was bad for the first week but then I thought that I am going to have to come out and show people, especially the judge, that you cannot lock away my pride and you cannot lock away my talent.

"My goal is to become a professional and I want to achieve that."

Louis was sent to prison for motoring offences but his time in jail has helped him to change his perspective in life.

He said: "When I went to prison, I said to myself I want to achieve something. Going to jail was a good thing that happened to me. It made me look at life in a different perspective and come out better motivated.

"There's nothing in life you cannot do. If you want something in life, you can do it."

Thame boss Andy Sinnott said he had noticed a change in the 22-year-old forward.

He said: "Prior to his troubles, he always had the ability but didn't havethe application. There's a noticeable change in his attitude and outlook on life.

"Being behind bars has focused his mind. He now realises what life is all about and he values his freedom.

"I hope he can go onto bigger and better things. I'm sure he can do. I have every confidence in him."

Louis paid tribute to his manager for keeping faith with him.

He said: "Andy stuck by me and he deserves a lot of credit for all his support.

"I've a lot of good things to say about Andy and I'll always give him 100 per cent."

Louis will be playing games for Ryman second Division Thame, but will also turn out for Oxford United reserves in midweek.

The United striker aims to sign professional soon and then see how things go.

He said: "Who knows what will happen? My ultimate dream is to play in the Premiership but I'll be playing the best I can."

Louis will be in action tomorrow as Thame take on Barking and East Ham United.
