Sapsford, who reached the third round of Wimbledon last summer before eliminated by defending champion Pete Sampras, played an exhibition match against Wickham Park's rising professional Billy McManus.

He then helped with the coaching of the hundreds of adfulsts and youngsters who had turned up for the club's Play Tennis weekend.

Wickham Park plans to stage several more open days aimed at attracting more people to the sport.

Dates already booked are Sunday, June 18, as well as Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16.
