A POPULAR singing group will be stepping up to help people next Friday, August 29.

Charity Independent Arts is taking its SingAbout groups — a social music therapy developed for people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, as well as those whose brain functions affected by stroke or injury — for a gentle stroll between the Appley Cafe to Appley Tower from 2pm.

Independent Arts chief executive Kate Ball said "We are pleased to be offering SingAbout in an open-air setting, where people can join in and see how much fun our groups are."

The SingAbout groups, held weekly in Freshwater, Newport, Ryde and Ventnor, were designed to help maintain memory and improve mood and wellbeing. It is also believed to improve breathing, movement, speech and confidence.
