HUNDREDS of gleaming modified 'street cars’ are expected at an Isle of Wight rally.

UK Street Cars Isle of Wight Takeover comes to the County Showground, Northwood, this weekend.

Organisers say they have already received confirmation that more than 575 cars will be driven to the Island event, including some very highly modified vehicles whose owners have spent more than £50,000 on them.

They are keen to emphasise safety credentials and say no dangerous driving will be tolerated either at the site or on the Cruise the Isle drive out on the Sunday.

At Northwood, the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service will be putting on a display of what happens in a car crash and bringing along a crash simulator too.

There will also be a static display from the Supercharged Outlaws and the Isle of Wight Mudrunners 4x4 group.

Trophies will be awarded for the best cars in different categories.

I had to laugh at that quote! I've had a couple of reasonably sporty cars, nothing quite as fancy as what you will see this weekend, but invariably have found myself having to fork out for broken suspension parts, new tyres (pothole damage) etc. A friend bought a very low sports car and found it totally unusable, he sold it shortly afterwards!

Had a browse on the net, looks like there will be loads of cars over from the mainland.
One comment on a forum from somebody not going made me laugh however :- Posted 21 September 2012 - 04:05 PM

"**** that. The Isle of Wight roads are terrible. My folks live there and I go over 10 odd times a year. I'd NEVER take a car with anything other than stock suspension! I dont think they have a budget for the roads at all."
